Work Package 4

WP 4 Tool development: A multi‐disciplinary, holistic suite of tools will be developed to advance practical mechanisms which can be used to identify, intervene and support individuals at risk of radicalisation. This WP will include technical, social and economic considerations associated with the tools development. WP3 will be led by KFN with major inputs from all technical partners.

Objectives

To develop new tools and enhance existing tools to prevent and counter radicalisation, taking into account practitioners’ needs, criteria for effectiveness and the gap between current policies and actual practices. A multi‐disciplinary, holistic suite of tools will be developed to advance practical mechanisms which can be used to identify, intervene and support individuals at risk of radicalisation. This WP will include technical, social and economic considerations associated with the tools development. WP3 will be led by KFN with major inputs from all technical partners.

Overall approach

This WP will develop five tools to prevent radicalisation, counter radicalisation, and increase practitioners’ capabilities to deal with de-radicalisation in their daily practice. By drawing on the results of the gap analysis in WP1 and the needs assessment in WP2, the innovative measures to be developed in WP3 will take into account the needs of practitioners as well as the current European policies. In addition, criteria for effectiveness identified by WP1 will be used as guidelines for the development of measures.

The PERICLES tools will be arranged along a continuum of phases in radicalisation. The tools are as follows:

  1. the Cyberspace Detection System;
  2. the Enhanced Platform;
  3. the Vulnerability Assessment Tool;
  4. The Family Care Package; and
  5. the Skill and Competencies Tool
