On 24-26 September, PERICLES representatives attended the annual European Research and Innovation Days conference in Brussels. The conference is led by the European Commission. It brings together Europe’s most successful researchers, scientists, innovators and policymakers to debate and shape the future research and innovation landscape. It also seeks to increase awareness among the public about the importance of research for solving societal problems. The conference focused on Horizon Europe, the successor to the Horizon 2020 project, which will begin in 2021.
PERICLES participated in a number of sessions at the conference, including a session on the creation of a new European Innovation Council, discussions about the role of end-users in the development of research, and a session on gender issues, where PERICLES representatives discussed the importance of setting gender targets, ensuring that gender expertise in research is acknowledged, and that research should actively focus on improving the lives of European citizens.
