The Criminological Research Institute of Lower Saxony (KFN) is a well-established academic organization that is disciplined in producing quality and originative research within a multidisciplinary field. With a regular institutional funding from the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture, the KFN has produced more than 40 successful projects and over 2200 academic publications. Established in 1979, its mandate continues to be the development of practice-orientated research as an independent and non-profit association. With its voluminous criminological and methodological expertise, the KFN pools this knowledge to driving rational, science-based crime policy in four key professional circles: Describing and explaining the causes of and trends in deviant and delinquent behaviour (crime trends); the risks, conditions and consequences of victimization (victimisation research); the operation of controlling agents and their effects on subjects (institutions and sanctioning); and the development and evaluation of crime prevention measures and programmes (crime prevention).
